VE Day 80th Anniversary Celebrations

Today, Reception through to year 6 came together to commemorate VE Day with a range of engaging and meaningful activities that helped bring this important moment in history to life for our children.

Reception had a wonderful time celebrating with a traditional street party. The children enjoyed a delightful afternoon tea complete with sandwiches, cakes, and plenty of flag-waving! They also had the chance to learn some 1940s-style dance moves, moving along to music from the era. It was a joyful and lively event that gave the children a real sense of the celebrations that took place across the country in 1945.

Meanwhile, Kindergarten marked the occasion in their own creative way by decorating VE Day biscuits. During circle time, they learned about the significance of VE Day and the end of World War II in Europe. The discussions helped lay the foundation for understanding remembrance and celebration in an age-appropriate way.

Across the rest of the school, each class explored VE Day in their own lessons—learning about the events leading up to Victory in Europe, the importance of the occasion, and the impact it had on people’s lives both then and now.

To conclude the week, the entire school gathered for a special assembly. Together, we reflected on the meaning of VE Day and the significance of peace after conflict. The children also learned more about Winston Churchill and his role as a wartime leader, gaining a greater appreciation for the challenges faced and the leadership that helped guide the nation through difficult times.

It was a memorable and educational week for everyone, full of learning, reflection, and celebration. A huge thank you to all the staff who helped make the activities so special!
