Week 2 in Pre-Prep: Autumn Term

Week 2 has been another busy week for our Pre-Prep and Kindergarten pupils. Our Reception to Year 3 pupils have been busy preparing for their Harvest Festival performances, learning songs and poems ready to perform in The Barn.

Over in Kindergarten our youngest children are quickly finding their feet with new and returning pupils settling into life at King’s Hawford. Our Kindergarten classrooms are always abuzz with different activities. Our weekly programme of activities have kicked off with swimming, P.E, Forest School, German, Rugby Tots, Ballet, and Shake, Rattle and Groove all recommencing after the summer break. The children have thoroughly enjoyed getting stuck into the wide variety of activities on offer. It has been lovely to see our Kindergarten children out exploring the Prep School grounds; they have been spotted out on autumn walks, trips to the Early Years Garden and boarding the Library Bus.

Week 2

Last week Kindergarten 2 pupils picked some delicious blackberries on their walk. This week, with the assistance of their teachers, they have baked a very tasty apple and blackberry crumble. All of the children enjoyed preparing the ingredients and were very proud to use the blackberries they had handpicked.

This term’s theme in Kindergarten is ‘All About Me’ and the children have been exploring how their bodies work. Through their weekly swimming and PE sessions children have focused on a range of movements from jumping, balancing and sliding on the soft play apparatus in the barn to splashing and kicking in the pool. In their yoga and Shake Rattle and Groove sessions the focus has been on music and movement. The children have fully involved themselves in the activities and have had a lot of fun learning about how their bodies move. Children made the most of our newly refurbished Kindergarten garden by playing some parachute games with the 5 little monkeys game proving very popular.

Week 2

The children showed great interest in producing self portraits; this was done by using mirrors to study their faces. With help from their teachers, the children were encouraged to observe what colour hair and eyes they have before finding the relevant colours to add to their portrait.

Kindergarten 2 pupils made use of some leftover blackberries. The children explored taste by trying the blackberries and then explored texture squashing the blackberries between their fingers. Determined not to waste any of the precious blackberries a number of the children created some impressive artwork using the squashed blackberries as paint!

We have had a rather mixed bag of weather this week, with everything from torrential downpours to glorious sunshine. On Tuesday some of our Kindergarten 2 pupils experienced a rather wet visit to Forest School. The rain certainly did not dampen spirits, quite the opposite in fact. Suitably dressed against the elements in their red waterproofs, the children fully embraced the muddy conditions exploring the different textures with their hands and jumping in every puddle possible.

Week 2

What a superb start to the autumn term! Well done Kindergarten!
