Hawford pupils shine in and outside the classroom

Today we were joined by Sixth Form students Freya and Maddie from “Big King’s”. Both girls were members of the King’s Worcester 1st VII that took part in the Superball clash at Worcester Arena on Saturday evening and the girls helped to kick off our Celebration Assembly by awarding members of our U10 and U11 Netball Teams with certificates and medals from the Warwick School Tournament. Our netballers joined forces with girls from King’s St Alban’s for the competition: the combined U10 team were victorious and the combined U11 team finished in a credible fourth place.

After presenting the awards, Maddie and Freya took part in a question and answer session. Pupils were intrigued to learn more about our Sixth Form visitors. We learnt that both Maddie and Freya were Old Hawfordians and both enjoyed a variety of sports in the Prep years. As they progressed up the Senior School, they both focused on netball. It was wonderful to hear how the girls prepared for the match by fuelling well and getting plenty of sleep! Thank you to Freya and Maddie for joining us.

Worcester Competitive Arts Festival

Congratulations to Brass Group, who were crowned winners in their category last weekend. The band performed Fanfare Open-Up and Smoke on the Water.

World Book Day Competition

Well done to all of the children who took part in our World Book Day competition to redesign a book cover. Mrs Atkins and Miss Kingston were very impressed with all of the efforts. Congratulations to Henry D and Elliott E who were both Highly Commended for their entries. The winners of the competition were Olivia L, Simi H and Noah L. Our Early Years winners were Talia G and Raff L.

Ski Trip Awards

Following on from their skiing adventure during half term, pupils were awarded with their Record Books detailing their achievements with the Italian Ski School. Pupils also received commemorative medals.

Congratulations also go to Caspar H in Year Two, who received medals from his time with the Austrian Ski School during half term.

Headmaster Awards (HMAs)

Well done to Hugo G and Oliver N, who have both impressed Mrs Beech with their improvement in swimming. Fifi S and William R have spent time creating excellent fact files on African animals for Miss Kingston and received HMAs for their efforts.

Year Six have been working hard: Annabel J, Darcy B and Jetta P have all produced some wonderfully detailed booklets on animal adaptations and  pupils in Year Six have also continued their focus on their key text Journey to the River Sea. Inspired by work on the Taverner family tree, Will H has spent time pulling together his own family tree. Ben L has been an influential figure in Engineering Club and has acted as a mentor for a number of younger pupils. He has received his HMA for his super engineering feats.

Simi H and Bella P have both impressed with their incredible maths skills this week. Simi has done excellent work on equivalent fractions and Bella has created a Times Tables booklet.

Year 3 & 4 Production

Mr Butt concluded the assembly by singing the praises of our fantastic Years Three and Four pupils. Their production, Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies, blew audiences away. Mr Butt even commented that it was one of the best performances he has ever seen, let alone one performed by children ranging from 7 to 9 years old! Well done to all involved.
