Curtain comes down on successful netball season

U8 Netball v RGS The Grange: Mrs Beech’s team

The netball season had almost come to an end, but we still had one more match to play: U8 King’s Hawford (Future King’s Superball Players) against RGS The Grange.

We always say to the girls that, no matter the outcome of a match, the most important thing is to have fun, learn and challenge yourself. Netball, along with all sport, is first and foremost there to be enjoyed. To win is a fantastic feeling and to lose may not always feel good, but no matter the result, there are always a whole host of positives to be found. Whether that is having the time of your life on the minibus to a fixture, enjoying a fantastic match tea with your teammates, taking the interception of your dreams, or throwing yourself into the GA/GS position and finding out that you are actually pretty awesome at it, that applies to all of Year Three.

We were able to put out three teams, follow rotations and give everyone the chance to show off their skills to the supporting family and friends on the side-lines. The girls were able to show strength and depth in their play and, with every turnover, rebound, successful centre pass, and goal, we demonstrated control and skill on court.

There were outstanding displays of netball from Alanna, who showed an excellent awareness for defending and moving into space, as well as stunning shooting from Persie, Eleanor, Ellie H,  and Tilly, who showed versatility in defensive and attacking play. We also enjoyed super centre-court play from Connie, Georgia, Aurelia, and Sophia, and excellent defending from Elise, Amelie, Sylvie, and Simi.

It was lovely to finish off the season with all three teams winning their matches and, after a delicious match tea of pizza and cookies with RGS, there was nothing but smiles on the faces of our girls.

When asked if they had enjoyed the netball season, the answer was a heart-warming “YES!”

King’s Hawford are producing netball players who are resilient in defeat and gracious in victory. Huge congratulations to the U8s for a successful first season of netball. All the Girls in Year Three were awarded Player of the Match.

U9 Netball v RGS The Grange: Miss Lake’s team

For their final netball fixture of the season, the U9 girls headed to RGS The Grange to play five-a-side Bee Ball. On Miss Lake’s court, the girls started strongly, thinking back to tactics that worked well for them in their tournament a few weeks ago. They had practiced passing to defensive players from the centre, allowing our attacking trio to move forward quickly, and this was soon implemented into their game, although RGS quickly caught onto our tactics and started defending these players as soon as the whistle was blown. Jasmine’s strong and accurate passes allowed for Florrie and Charlotte F to receive the ball quickly into the D and Charlotte’s shooting practice over the last term certainly came in useful as she produced four effortless goals within the first quarter. As the game went on and tiredness began to kick in, the girls had to work harder to mark their players, ensuring they kept up with them. Zara and Rosie both made valuable interceptions at tense moments of the game, and Maysie managed to collect several rebounds from missed shots from the opposition. The six girls worked hard right up until the final whistle, with a deserved victory to take away for their final game of Year Four. RGS’s Player of the Match went to Jasmine.

U9 Netball v RGS The Grange: Mrs Butt’s teams

There was much excitement as the girls stepped off the ‘bus for their final fixture of the season.

Ariana was named Captain for this match and led her team beautifully through a strong and competitive match. She led by example, making a number of well-timed interceptions, and moved the ball nicely up the court, taking advantage of the early attack. Valerie held strong in the centre court, marking her player tightly, and delivering some excellent balls into our attacking circle. Adelyn made a difference in every area of the court, always stepping up to reach the ball first and taking the opportunity for some fantastic shots at goal. RGS were strong and tested the team throughout the game, but Annie did well to defend, keeping them out of their circle as much as possible. Bella showed strength in attack and had some good shots on target,  and Charlotte stepped up her marking, putting pressure on the opposition. Mrs Butt is incredibly pleased with the progress this team has made this season and the resulting draw in this match is a reflection of the girls’ hard work and determination. It was a very competitive and well-matched game and a performance of which these girls should be very proud! Well done to Adelyn, who was deservedly named Player of the Match by the opposition.

On the other court the five girls, led by Izzy W, put on a tremendous show of all the skills they have learnt this term. The first half of the game was neck-a-neck, resulting in a draw at the half-time interval. Izzy, Robyn, India, Ruby, and Daisy were all in very positive spirits and were able to take things up a gear for the final part of the match. Ruby showed some strong and decisive passing through centre court and was able to get the ball into our attacking circle at every opportunity. Robyn and Daisy worked tirelessly in defence to intercept the ball and keep it out the hands of the RGS attackers. Izzy and India worked beautifully together in attack and Izzy was able to score several in a row securing the win for the team. The girls should be very proud of their final performance of the season and take confidence in everything they have learned and experienced. Robyn’s hard work was recognised by the opposition as they awarded her player of the match. Well done Robyn!

U10 and U11 House Netball

The U10 and U11 girls finished the netball season with House Matches this week. It was a wonderful end to a very successful season for our teams, as every single girl has developed and progressed their netball skills this term and this was evident in our final matches. There was some brilliant team spirit on display throughout the House Matches and this year it was Malvern who emerged victorious, with Bredon in second place, Kinver in third and Clent in fourth place. Well done to all of the girls for an outstanding season of netball.
