A Brilliant Informal Concert

On Thursday 28th November, over 70 children took part performing in a big informal concert in the Barn.

Opening with our 24-piece school Orchestra playing the National Anthem, the audience respectfully and spontaneously stood up for the rousing performance. Packed with energy, their second piece was the toe-tapping ‘We’re on a Mission to Rock’, showing great versatility through the contrasting styles of music.

String Group’s beautiful and serene performance of the Sleeping Beauty Waltz by Tchaikovsky was followed with gusto by the bright sound of Brass Group performing the theme from Chariots of Fire. It is so encouraging to hear the rich tone produced by the ensembles which is both impressive and inspiring for the performers and audience.

Solos followed on a variety of instruments, including Bonnie on the lap harp, Alexander and Aoife on the Violin, and cheerful songs from Harry, Georgia, Rosie, Lily, Ellie and Maisie. Robyn sang and accompanied herself on the ukulele, Louis gave his first performance on the Trumpet, and Isaac played a jazzy piano piece. With a funky performance from Lily on the drum kit, a pretty flute solo from Jess, and a swinging cello performance from Mary, the concert headed to a close with an impressive Spanish dance on the violin performed by Olivia and a beautiful rendition of Mountain Stream on the lever Harp performed by Iza.  Closing the concert, after a long wait, the junior choir gave uplifting performances of Do-Re-Mi (from the Sound of Music), and Tomorrow (from Annie).

The audience were delighted with the performances and impressed with the ambition shown in so many pieces, along with the resilience shown by the performers.  We are extremely proud that so many children are involved in the school Music ensembles, with huge numbers receiving singing or instrumental tuition from our wonderful peripatetic team. We look forward to more informal concerts next time! Keep up the good practice everyone!
