Heroes take centre stage for Charity

Last Friday’s Charity Day was a great success. Pupils arrived at school in an array of brightly coloured costumes, each dressed up to represent their hero. They had taken the hero theme of the day and had interpreted it in many wonderful ways. We had everything from superheroes and superstars to global icons and sporting idols. Particular highlights were a super Malala Yousafzai, celebrating the Lionesses’ efforts, Test cricketers and famous explorers, to name but a few. Mrs Knight and Miss Kingston won the staff vote, each dressing as the other to quite uncanny, and unnerving, effect.

It was brilliant to see the whole school joining in with fundraising activities. The children in Kindergarten 1 got into the superhero spirit when they rescued Mrs Danks from being squashed by the library bus! Pre-Prep children thoroughly enjoyed the efforts made by our catering team: superhero cupcakes were a real treat!

During morning assembly the children were introduced to the ‘Teachers in Trouble’ competition. Three members of staff had volunteered to take part in a challenge. The children were invited to use their charity donations that day to vote for their ‘Teacher in Trouble’. Mr Roberts was relieved to learn that he didn’t have to don his pantomime heels and Mrs Horrocks was happy to learn that she didn’t have to face the ice bucket challenge on this occasion. The children had voted unanimously to see Mr Butt face the challenge of swimming lengths of the school pool fully clothed! The date for the challenge was set for Monday at midday.

The children were absolutely delighted to witness Mr Butt complete the challenge on Monday lunchtime; the pool was filled with shrieks of delight from the children as Mr Butt entered the water.

Donations from the school community helped us to raise over £450 for our charities: Get Kids Going, The Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust and Project Gambia.
