King's St Alban's

Pre-Prep Arts Week goes for gold!

Members of King’s St Alban’s Pre-Prep have had a magnificent experience this week, learning all about the Olympics, the theme of this year’s Pre-Prep Arts Week.

There was something for everyone, sparking each and every child’s imagination, delving into the history of the Olympics before practising their mapping skills and creating some fabulous pieces of art. Mrs Kilbey loved getting her hands messy creating some French inspired lino-prints with Year One, and painting rocks in an array of Olympic flags with Year Two. We certainly have a number of budding artists in our Pre-Prep Department.

Pupils also created and decorated their own clay medals and learned some sporting-themed songs in preparation for the week’s grand finale, our very own King’s St Alban’s Pre-Prep Mini-Olympics. Held in the gardens of “Big King’s”, the afternoon started with a  traditional opening ceremony. All the children took part in a parade, enthusiastically waving colourful ribbons and following behind our Year Two Olympic torchbearers.

With excitement levels reaching fever pitch, it was time for the events to start. Children competed in their Houses across a number of Olympic-themed events. There was a hobby-horse hurdles equestrian event, duathlon run and scooter ride, football penalty shootout and tennis target practise to name but a few! All the children demonstrated great determination and sportsmanship and it was wonderful to see our Pre-Prep children working together in their Houses. With Year Two taking the lead to support their younger House members, all of them proved to be excellent leaders within the community.

The fun and games concluded with a closing medal ceremony, where all the children were celebrated for their achievements and presented with the medals they had made earlier in the week.  Well done, Pre-Prep for all of your hard work and enthusiasm!
