Determination on Show in the Under 14 Basketball Tournament

The U14 King’s Basketball team were full of energy and determination going into the tournament at Blessed Edward’s on Monday.

The team found themselves behind at half time in their first game against Bishop Perowne. However, after a strong defensive performance, they turned it around to win the game comfortably. Importantly, there were lots of positives out of this game, particularly the team’s good ball movement and some excellent short and long range shots going in.

The second game was against a tough Nunnery Wood side, and the team were again behind at half time. In the second half, they brought the score back to within 2 points but ended up narrowly losing 18-20.

The second place finish in their pool set up a game against Christopher Whitehead’s, who had come first in their pool. After back-to-back games and with only one substitute, the team were tired but pushed hard and kept the game competitive. Unfortunately, they couldn’t quite get the win they needed in the semi-finals.

The team did incredibly well and ended up coming joint third. All players were U13, a year below the majority of pupils at the tournament, which means they will all have the opportunity to play again next year.
