Drakensberg Boys Choir to Perform at Worcester Cathedral with King’s Worcester Choirs

We are thrilled to announce that South Africa’s world-renowned Drakensberg Boys Choir will be performing at Worcester Cathedral as part of their highly anticipated Hear Us Sing UK Tour.

The performance will take place on Friday, 27th September 2024, at 7:30 p.m. and promises to be a spectacular musical event, featuring the choirs of King’s Worcester, King’s St Alban’s, and King’s Hawford Junior Choir.

An Unforgettable Musical Experience

The Drakensberg Boys Choir, known affectionately as the Drakies, is celebrated for its distinctive blend of classical choral masterpieces and the vibrant rhythms of Afro-pop. Audiences can expect a diverse repertoire ranging from timeless works by Carl Orff and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to the modern compositions of Ola Gjeilo and Knut Nystedt. The choir will also showcase traditional and contemporary African music, bringing a unique, energetic sound to the magnificent surroundings of Worcester Cathedral.

Joining them on stage will be the talented choirs from King’s Worcester, King’s St Alban’s, and King’s Hawford, making for a truly collaborative and inspiring evening of music.

About the Drakensberg Boys Choir

With a 57-year history, the Drakensberg Boys Choir School (DBCS) is the only established choir school in South Africa. The school provides a world-class education focused on excellence in music, academics, sports, and social enrichment, all within a Christian environment. The Drakies are internationally respected for their musical talent, which they use to inspire hope and create positive change both in South Africa and around the world.

Proceeds from the tour will support the Drakensberg Boys Choir’s Bursary Fund, which ensures that talented boys from all backgrounds have the opportunity to attend the choir school and realise their dreams, regardless of financial circumstances.
