Impressive Start to the Season for Girls’ Hockey Teams
The girls’ hockey teams have kicked off their season with a series of competitive fixtures, showing determination, skill, and a great sense of teamwork across all age groups. Over the past two weeks, multiple matches have been played, with many close contests and strong performances from all teams involved.
The first games of the season saw teams from the U14s, U15s, and the 1st squads taking on Trent College. The 1st team made a statement with an 8-0 victory, while the U14A team mirrored this result with their own commanding 8-0 win. The U15A team narrowly lost 1-0 in a tight contest, but the U15B team bounced back with a solid 2-1 victory. The U14B side also impressed, winning 4-1. It was a fantastic opening weekend with many girls involved in the fixtures, demonstrating determination and adapting well to playing alongside new teammates.
The following weekend saw matches against Solihull, where the 1st team continued their strong form with a 2-1 win. The U14 team also secured a narrow 1-0 victory, showing composure under pressure. However, the 2nd team faced a tough 5-0 defeat, and the U15s were unlucky in their 1-0 loss. Despite the mixed results, all teams remained calm and focused, with great support from the sidelines as other girls came to cheer on their teammates.
In midweek action, the U13 girls played an intense ISHC Cup match against Redmaids. After a 1-1 draw in normal time, the game was decided by penalty flicks, with the team emerging victorious 2-1 to advance to the next round. It was a close match with both sides having plenty of opportunities, but the U13s held their nerve in a dramatic finish.
On Wednesday, the 1st and 2nd teams faced off against Princethorpe College in what turned out to be exciting, goal-filled encounters. The 1st team drew 3-3, while the 2nd team finished 2-2, with a last-minute goal securing the draw. Both matches were competitive, with plenty of goals against a well-organized opposition, and the teams are building well for the rest of the season.
Looking ahead, the U15 girls will compete in an ISHC Cup match against Marlborough on Thursday, 18th September, while the U12A-E teams face Solihull on Friday, 19th September, with A-C teams playing away and D-E teams at home at Worcester Hockey Club. On Saturday, 20th September, the U13A & B and U12A & B teams will travel to High Warwick for a tournament starting at 9:00 AM.
The start of the season has shown great promise for all teams, and there’s plenty of excitement and anticipation for the upcoming matches.
