Removes Rowers Return Victorious from First Regatta
On Saturday 11th May, members of the Boat Club ventured a short way up the River Severn to Shrewsbury to compete at the annual Shrewsbury Regatta, hosted by Pengwern Rowing Club. The event ran very smoothly, in the glorious sunshine, offering great racing throughout the day for over one hundred King’s Rowers.
It was the first regatta for our Lower Remove rowers and offered a terrific opportunity to put into action their skills acquired over recent months. We boated three boys’ and two girls’ Coxed Quadruple Sculls against clubs and schools from the local Northwest regions.
They all raced well and gained some valuable experience in racing side-by-side against other crews, some far more experienced than our pupils. The Quad Scull of Henrietta V, Florence V, Isabella W, Sophie E and Amelia C went from strength to strength with each round, beating King’s Chester crews in their heat and semi-final to reach the final against Northwich Rowing Club. The final race was very exciting, with our girls powering home to victory and earning their first regatta medals.
Other King’s victories on the day went to:
FF Boys: Pair (Seb McD, Tom P) and Quad Scull (Toby A, Luke M, Rowan C, Charlie M-W)
FF Girls: Pair (Emelia S, Holly O)
Sixth Form Girls: Eight ( Freya D, Millie D, Amelia V, Rebecca N, Posie F, Jemima H-W, Isabella G, Ruby I, Emily A)
Sixth Form Boys: Single Scull (Max B), Double Scull (Tom W, Jude A), Coxed Four (Freddie H, Fin I, Ptolemy N, Ben M, Ellie N) and Quad Scull (Josh L, Jack D, Harry W, Elliott B) in Men’s Open Quad Scull
