Roll on Paisley!

Upper Fourth Former Paisley H is a talented artistic roller skater, and last week she competed in the sport’s national competition, for which she has been training hard. Her remarkable achievements there could eventually lead to her being selected for the Great Britain Team.

Artistic roller skating is a competitive sport similar to figure skating, but in which competitors wear roller instead of ice skates. Within the sport, there are several disciplines, including Figures, Solo Dance and Free Dance. Although it shares elements of its counterpart on ice, there are some significant differences in moves, technique, and judging, but many ice skaters start their careers in roller skating.

Paisley did very well in the competition, finishing seventh out of 16 in her Compulsory Dance, the Glide Waltz, on Saturday and eighth out of 16 in her Free Dance on Sunday. Although she didn’t finish on the podium, Paisley’s determination and hard work mean she is ranked an incredible seventh and eighth in her age group in the UK.

We wish her all the best in her future competitions and look forward to watching her continued progress in this exciting sport.
