Senior Boys enjoy a Stellar Start to the 2023 Season
The 1st XI and U17s have made an excellent start to the cricket season, winning all eight of the completed matches they have played, with one being washed out against Worcestershire CCC Academy.
Director of Cricket Mr Greenall commented, “We have played some outstanding cricket so far this season and performed well in all disciplines of the game. Our players are always looking to take the positive option where possible, making for some exciting cricket. Our spinners have been the standout performers for us, meaning the opposition have found it really difficult to score for large parts of the game.”
The impressive run of victories has come against some well renowned cricketing schools: Cheltenham College, Rugby School, Bromsgrove and Monmouth; it sees both teams progressing in their respective National Cup competitions. The teams’ effort as a whole has been fantastic so far this season. Even so, there have been a few standout performances: Monty J hit 100 off 63 balls against Rugby School and 55 against Warwick, Will T and Seth E made half-centuries against Bromsgrove and Cheltenham College respectively, and George T came away with a spectacular five-wicket haul against Sir Thomas Rich’s School.
Mr Greenall added, “The whole squad are a close-knit group, which has made such a difference on the field, as they all want to do well for each other and are keen to celebrate each other’s success. The positive mindset they have has been really pleasing to see”.
In the first week back after Half Term, the U17s face Denstone College at home in the next round in the National Cup and the 1st XI play RGS Worcester in their annual block fixture.
Well done to the squad for their efforts so far this season. We wish them the best of luck in their coming games.
