Senior Cricket at King’s Continues to Shine
The Boys 1st XI Team are enjoying excellent success this season, having won eight out of the nine regular season matches they have played so far. As summer promises better weather, they are looking to go from strength to strength in the second half of term.
The season started with a bang, with two excellent performances in their pre-season games and a comprehensive victory over Cheltenham College, and the team haven’t looked back since.
The whole squad have looked to build on the positive style of play which they developed last year, and an average score of 184 when batting first in T20 matches says everything about how they want to play the game. Worcestershire 2nd XI and Academy Player, Seth E has led the way with the bat, averaging 63.5, including a blistering 105 off just 55 balls against Dean Close. Hot on his heels is Will T (43.1), who has also provided excellent stability at the top of the order.
However, much of the success in the longer-format matches is down to our impressive new ball bowling attack. Henry H (20) and Arthur Q (12) have consistently bowled impressive spells, and regularly torn through the opposition’s top order. Ollie Y and Jamie T have also been in superb form, taking 39 wickets between them and making scoring very difficult for our opponents in the middle spell of the innings.
The 1st XI continue their season this Saturday in the annual 50-over match at Slingpool Walk against our home-town rivals, RGS Worcester. The match starts at 11am and all spectators are most welcome to come along and support the team; if the prospect of sparkling cricket isn’t enough to tempt you, afternoon tea and ice-cream will also available from 3pm. Please join us for what promises to be a cracking match.
