F1 In Schools team ‘Prism Racing’ Visit ‘Keysafe’ in Worcester

During half term, members of our Prism Racing Team spent time with The Key Safe Company in Worcestershire to gain insights into the business and engineering sectors.

This visit built on an existing partnership between Key Safe, a pioneering access management firm, and the pupil team, who were UK finalists in the Professional Class of the F1 in Schools international STEM competition.

The Upper Remove (Y10) pupils, part of the Prism Racing Team, engaged with employees from the engineering, technical, and marketing departments at Key Safe. The morning was spent delving into various aspects of Key Safe’s operations, including design, quality assurance, and control. The pupils were particularly impressed by the rigorous testing procedures, emphasizing the necessity of reliability and performance. An “Attack Test” demonstration showcased the capability of Key Safe products, leaving a strong impression on the team.

Throughout the day, valuable insights were shared that could be used to improve the running of the team. The pupils learned about the importance of iterative prototyping and the use of advanced CAD software, resonating with their design process for the F1 in Schools car. Furthermore, the marketing team shared strategies for content planning, digital media, and the implementation of social media to build the team’s online presence.

Aron G, a 14-year-old team member, described the visit as an amazing opportunity that was both fun-filled and informative. He noted that it provided them with insights into design, quality control, and marketing, which they could transpose to improve their own team’s operations. The experience not only broadened their technical knowledge but also motivated them to adopt a professional approach for their future competitions.

As a token of gratitude, Prism Racing presented Key Safe employees with a branded miniature F1 car. Key Safe Customer Service Manager Kelly Woodhouse expressed pleasure in hosting the pupils and highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting the local community. She affirmed that Key Safe staff would continue to offer expert advice to Prism Racing as they prepare for next year’s competition.

Founded in 1996, Key Safe is renowned for its high-quality security products, including key safes, secure cabinets, access control systems, and padlocks. Supporting Prism Racing aligns with the company’s core values of community engagement and excellence in quality and security. Key Safe has kindly agreed to continue sponsoring Prism Racing next season, ensuring that the pupils have the support they need to succeed in the F1 in Schools competition.
