Boathouse Buzzes for 5k Day

The Michael Baker Boathouse was buzzing with the hum of the indoor rowing machines and the excitement of our annual ‘5K Day’ over the weekend.

Senior rowers raced over 5000 metres on the ergometers, whilst our newest recruits undertook a four-minute race. The gruelling event is the first in a line of indoor rowing challenges the rowers face over the winter months, as the short daylight hours limit our time on the river.

It was wonderful to see some tight racing and so many of the rowers achieving personal best times for the distance. The event also is a good precursor to our annual Boat Club Charity Challenge held at the end of the term (the 12th and13th December), where this year the rowers will row and cycle for a distance of two million metres to raise funds in aid of Motor Neurone Disease.

Congratulations to all participants for great racing and a special mention to the age group winners.
