Business Students Impress in Dragons’ Den Challenge

King’s Lower Sixth Business students were put through their paces in a Dragons’ Den event earlier this week.

Students had to present business plans to an impressive group of ‘dragons’, including OVs, Jimmy Graham (Os 06-17), founder and MD of Streamz, and Holly Dearn (W 11-18) from Danone.

Jimmy and Holly were joined on the panel by John Roberts from NFU Mutual and Martin Sharples, founding director of Amazon.co.uk.

Gwyn Williams, (Hon OV), from the Business and Economics Department, who organised the event, said: “Our students were definitely out of their comfort zone, but they all showed resilience in justifying their proposals under fierce scrutiny.”

In an entertaining contest, the winning business idea, chosen by the dragons, was the Curiosity Crate concept developed and presented by Sam L, Maxwell L and Austin B.

Austin said the Dragons were “very professional…it was amazing how they managed to find some holes in all of the business ideas”.

Sophie G from the Duora team added: “The event was challenging, but good fun, and a great way to end the first year of the Business A level course.”

Dragon, Jimmy Graham, said: “It was great to be back at school, see familiar faces, and meet the students coming up with some genuinely good business ideas. I think it’s a really valuable skill to be able to develop and pitch an idea, talk to an audience, and answer questions on the spot – well done to all involved!”
