‘Around the World in 8 days’ Fundraiser Launched by King’s

We are excited to launch the Sports Department’s fundraiser challenge to all pupils, staff and OVs: ‘Around the World in 8 days’. The aim is to run, cycle, walk, swim or row the equivalent of 18,000 miles.

The inspiration for this fundraiser follows Mark Beaumont’s world record in 2017 where he cycled 18,000 miles around the world in 80 days. We are attempting to do this as a whole school in just 8 days!

The journey will last from today, Friday February 5th-12th and the charity we will be raising money for is The Mental Health Foundation, chosen by our Monitors and Heads of Houses.

Cycle World record route

As a school, we recognise the impact the pandemic has had on young people. We want to ensure that across the country young people get the support they need and that mental health provision is at the forefront of the country’s response to Covid 19.

“Our vision is for a world with good mental health for all. Our mission is to help people understand, protect and sustain their mental health. Prevention is at the heart of what we do because the best way to deal with a crisis is to prevent it from happening in the first place”, The Mental Health Foundation.

To get involved, get active! Run, walk, cycle, swim or row a number of times over the eight-day period and total up the distance you travel. Pupils are required to provide their miles to House or Form Tutor each morning or to join the school Strava Group ‘KSW Sport’ to submit your totals.

We look forward to you all getting involved in this exciting challenge and supporting this important charity. For daily updates about how we are getting on, please follow King’s Sport Twitter.
