Big Weekend of Events for King’s Rowers and OV Rowers
There has been a number of rowing events on either side of the pond for our King’s Rowers and OV rowers.
On Saturday 13th May we had 24 senior rowers attend the Nottingham City Regatta at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham. The event was a great chance for many of our crews to race over a 2000 metre course in the lead up to their races at the National Schools’ Regatta at the end of the month. The crews gained valuable experience in some tight battles throughout the day. We raced three Sixth Form Quad Sculls, with two progressing to the A-Final. The Fifth Form Boys Four faced senior men in their draw, they fought admirably in the races among the strength and experience of the opposition.
Our Fifth Form Boys Quad Scull raced in the final, where they had a great battle with Grange School at the front of the race. They crossed the line in second but look forward to another chance in the coming weeks. Our Sixth Form Girls racing in two pairs, went straight to the final. Unfortunately, a technical problem lead to one crew pulling out after only a few strokes, leaving the other to lead the race for the early stages. Their opposition from Newark made a decisive move in the middle stage of the race and took the lead, despite all the efforts from our girls they had to settle for second.
It was fantastic to see so many OV’s racing in crews and involved in coaching others, at the event.
It was also great to see that two OV’s in the states meet up at the Annual Pac-12 Championships. Alice Baker (Stanford) and Lucy Stratton (UCLA) raced for their respective universities.
On Monday 15th May, for Lower Remove Games, we hosted crews from RGS in a friendly match with scratch crews on our home stretch. The event was fun, giving many of our rowers their first experience of side-by-side racing and provided fantastic preparation for the summer events.
This Saturday sees 100 of our rowers competing at the Worcester Spring Regatta, hosted by Worcester Rowing Club. Racing will be held throughout the day along the stretch in front of the club.
