Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Pupils Complete First Training Weekend

Last weekend, 62 Upper Remove pupils embarked on their first Bronze Duke of Edinburgh practice expedition, camping at Pikes Pool Scout Camp near Bromsgrove.

The excitement was high as the pupils set up tents and prepared for their adventure, despite a storm threatening to disrupt their plans on Saturday night.

Throughout the weekend, students received valuable training. They spent Saturday being trained in navigation skills by an instructor, as well as receiving instruction in using Trangia stoves and putting up tents.

An instructor led them through the basics of navigation skills, equipping them with the knowledge needed for Sunday’s independent walks. They split into two groups, with one walking from the campsite to the Clent Hills and the other heading toward Feckenham.

The students demonstrated remarkable commitment and teamwork, receiving high praise from their instructor for their positive attitudes.

Their efforts enhanced their navigation, camp craft, and teamwork abilities, leaving them well-prepared for their upcoming Bronze Duke of Edinburgh qualifying expedition in June. This assessed expedition will involve two days of walking and one night of camping in the Cotswolds, and the pupils will complete a route planning evening in preparation.

A big congratulations to all the pupils for their hard work, and thank you to all the staff who worked tirelessly to make this happen.
