CCF battle it out in Section Competition
It was a busy weekend for KSW CCF, as they fought out the Inter-Section Competition all day on Saturday 16th March and throughout the morning of Sunday 17th. Cadets had the opportunity to demonstrate and develop their skills in a wide variety of areas including First aid, Target Indication and Continuity Drill, where each Section must perform a sequence of ten drill moves without any commands. Many of these stands were challenging, and the scores were extremely close, with each section’s Joker Card, which gave double points for one stand of the section’s choosing, providing some extra suspense.
On Sunday, the cadets continued the competition with a Military Knowledge test, which was challenging but also educational and enjoyable. After this, they were split into two groups for further training. Before lunch, one group had an introduction to Signals, with the Personal Role Radios being a huge highlight. At the same time, the other group were completing Skill at Arms training with the L98A2 rifle, which involved revision and renewing Weapon Handling Tests for Senior Cadets ahead of the Range Day in April; the younger cadets in Alma Platoon were introduced to the rifle for the first time, so they will have the opportunity to use it on Summer Camp and beyond.
In the afternoon, the two groups switched over to complete their final training for the weekend. At the end of the day, it was time for Final Parade, with One Section having the opportunity to perform the winning Drill Sequence. By now, it was time to award the trophy to the winning section and, while the competition was incredibly close, Three Section won the cup by just one point.
Overall, the weekend was a thoroughly enjoyable experience for all with cadets, putting their training into action and displaying excellent skills. However, none of this would have been possible without the tireless and unwavering dedication of all the officers and adult staff, who worked immensely hard to organise the event and made sure that everyone enjoyed the weekend, all getting the very most out of it. We also have to acknowledge the contributions of the Senior Cadets, who gave up their time to help to keep the competition running, and put their remarkable casualty-acting skills to good use during the First aid scenarios!
