Charlie takes Bronze at The British Age Weightlifting Championship

The British Age Group Championships took place at the weekend for the Olympic sport of Weightlifting. Charlie M-W (FF,Os) competed in the U15 age group and won a bronze medal in the -67kg bodyweight category.

Charlie’s group was highly competitive, with the eventual winner needing to break several British records in order to secure first place.

As a National Championship event, Charlie was required to qualify for this competition in July of this year, and he has spent the subsequent months training incredibly hard over his summer holidays to ensure he came into this event, his first full weightlifting competition,  able to achieve an excellent result.

The King’s School Weightlifting Club is one of very few school weightlifting clubs in the country that is affiliated with British Weightlifting. The club was formed during the summer holidays and Charlie was the first pupil to join, primarily in the hope that Olympic Weightlifting would help him to improve power for rowing. To win a medal at a National Championship so soon after taking up the sport is a fantastic achievement for Charlie and a testament to his hard work and talent.
