The U15 and U13 girls’ cricket teams attended the Lady Taverner’s cricket festival at Kidderminster Cricket Club early this week. Normally this is an indoor competition held in the spring term. We were really keen to participate this year after so much opportunity had been lost due to the pandemic.
Due to a number of schools pulling out of the U13 competition, the U13 girls competed against the U15s. The girls played RGS Dodderhill & Studley High School, finishing with a final group game against each other. The U15s batted first scoring a respectable 69 runs with the U13s needing to score four of the last two balls due to excellent batting by the likes of Esther G and Bea W. Excellent bowling by Lucy W denied the U13s victory finishing on 68. This final game placed King’s U15 team first place in the group and the U13s second in the group. After a break for lunch, both teams played each other again in a 1st place playoff, with the winner becoming County Champions.
Sadly Martha lost her winning streak of rock, paper, scissors and the U15s decided to bowl first. Keeping the U13s to a respectable 51 runs, the U15s were able to knock these off with 5 wickets to spare taking the title of Lady Taverner Winners and both teams are now County Champions in their age divisions.
“To all the girls involved they demonstrated excellent bowling, fielding and batting along with some more comic moments. The girls demonstrated assertiveness, leadership, endeavour and a real camaraderie and support for each other. It was a joy to observe. The girls were independent, self-sufficient and finished off a fabulous season”, Miss Preece.
