On Tuesday, the Economics and Business Department took six Upper Sixth students to the inaugural QuBEc Cup Competition at Queen’s College Taunton.
This QuBEc Cup Competition consisted of twelve teams of three students going head-to-head with various teams from other independent schools. Leaving school in the early hours of the morning the teams were looking forward to a competitive day out!
The format of the competition entailed having to answer a correct general knowledge question worth 5 points in order to be given the business/economics question worth 10 points, but if answered incorrectly, the question is passed over to the opposing team.
Both King’s teams did themselves proud. Our Economics team Henry C, James P and Katie R showed outstanding subject knowledge and finished as the highest placed Economics team from the six economics teams participating, smashing their first round to win with 115 points!
The Business team consisting of George B, Hannah H and Gabby S went even further in the competition; ending up as runners-up, just pipped in a nail-biting final by the Business team from Dauntsey’s.
Speaking on her experience, Hannah H says “I found it very nerve-wracking – I felt like I was on university challenge! But the team was great, and we all supported each other massively. There was a lot of pressure on the stage but it was great fun at the same time!”
The day was a huge success and enabled the students to broaden their understanding of their subjects in a fun and competitive way.
