King’s Swimmers Excel in West Midlands Championships and Autumn Open Meets

King’s Worcester swimmers have delivered an exceptional performance in the West Midlands qualifying rounds for the English Schools Swimming Association (ESSA) National Relay Championships. Competing against 53 teams from 35 schools, our pupils have achieved remarkable results across multiple categories, showcasing their skill and commitment to the sport.

The Senior Boys team led the way with victories in both the Freestyle and Medley relays, demonstrating their dominance in the region. The Senior Girls also put in strong performances, securing third place in both their Freestyle and Medley relays, leaving them hopeful for a spot in the national finals.

In the Intermediate category, the Inter Girls team finished fourth in the Freestyle relay and seventh in the Medley relay. The Inter Boys team achieved a solid seventh place in the Freestyle and an impressive third in the Medley relay. Our Junior Boys team also performed admirably, finishing third in the Freestyle and fourth in the Medley relay. The Junior Girls faced tough competition but managed to place ninth in the Freestyle and tenth in the Medley relay.

Our B teams also made their mark, with the Junior Boys B team finishing in the top 10. The Inter Girls B, Senior Girls B, and Senior Boys B teams all placed within the top 15, while the Junior Girls B team secured a spot in the top 20. This reflects the depth of talent in our swimming squads.

In a show of enthusiasm and commitment, King’s Worcester was able to enter C teams in the Junior and Inter Girls categories, highlighting the growing interest in swimming at the school. This level of participation is encouraging and bodes well for future success.

The top 24 teams from all regions will be invited to the ESSA National Team Relay Championships, which will be held at the Commonwealth Games pool in the Sandwell Aquatics Centre on Saturday, 16th November. With our Senior Boys’ and Senior Girls’ fast relay times, we are optimistic about their chances of qualifying for this prestigious event.

This past weekend, a number of King’s Foundation pupils competed in the Worcester Swimming Club Autumn Open Meet, and several excellent individual performances were held. Pupils Millie W (KSA), Thea E (KSH), Mia G (KSW), Pippa P (KSH), Ben G (KSW), Helena C (KSW), Shreya V (KSW), Aled L (KSW), Humphrey D (KSW), Frankie B (KSW), and Freddie P (KSW) represented their respective schools with pride. Notably, Grace R, Aled L, and Ben G qualified for the exciting ‘skins’ event, with Ben triumphing by winning all seven of the 50m back-to-back sprints. Additionally, many other pupils participated in the Sandwell Open Meet at the Commonwealth Games Pool, competing for their respective clubs ensuring a strong King’s presence across both events.

We eagerly await the final results from ESSA and look forward to seeing our pupils continue to thrive in the national competitions ahead.
