King’s Swimmers Seize Medal Success at Regional Championships
Our swimmers recently competed at the West Midland Summer Championships, held at the Commonwealth pool in Sandwell over two weekends, and achieved some spectacular success. Qualifying for these championships is a great achievement in itself, but many of our swimmers also qualified for finals and even won medals in several events.
Harry C was simply on fire, winning six gold medals in the 16-year age group. He showed his expertise in a wide variety of strokes and distances, winning the 50m, 100m and 200m Butterfly, and 50m, 100m and 200m Freestyle. Harry also placed an impressive fifth in the Open Final of the 400m Freestyle, achieving the fastest 16-year-old time.
Grace R, in the 16-year age group, and Grace E, in the 17-year age group, both took the Breaststroke events by storm; Grace R won silver in the 50m, bronze in the 200m, and made the final in the 100m race, and Grace E won silver in the 100m and 200m events.
In the 15-year age group, Dylan L dominated the Backstroke sprints, winning gold in both the 50m and 100m races, and made the finals in the 200m Backstroke, 50m Butterfly and 50m Freestyle.
Ben G reached the final in both the 50m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle in the 17-and-over age group. This is a massive achievement as this is a very tough category, essentially racing adult men.
Alex McV made the final in the 50m Butterfly in the 16-year age group and Cleo F, Aled L, and Catherine H also competed at the championships, all recording fast swims.
Lizzie Monkhouse, who co-ordinates all our Senior School swimming competitions, added, “We are delighted for our swimmers that they achieved such amazing success. They all work incredibly hard to prepare for every competition, and completing such training whilst juggling schoolwork is never easy.”
Well done, swimmers!
