Supporting Malvern St James Families

We are sorry to hear the news regarding Malvern St James School and recognise how difficult and unsettling this will be for its community.

The King’s Worcester Foundation wishes to offer a supportive and practical conversation to MSJ families who may be considering their next steps for September. Where appropriate, we would be happy to discuss potential places across our schools and to answer any questions.

Mixed Hockey Round-Up at King’s Worcester

Last term saw the return of Mixed Hockey for the 1st XI. It provided a fantastic opportunity for the boys and girls to participate in sport together, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Both the girls and the boys thoroughly enjoyed themselves, with more and more people attending training each week. It was an opportunity for players of all abilities to develop their skills and understanding of the game, with several boys making their hockey debuts for King’s Worcester.

The first game saw the team travel to The Chase, in what was a great introduction for some of the boys to their first competitive game of hockey. In an end to end game, despite letting several goal scoring chances slip, King’s won 4-0.

Having learnt from this game, the team improved their play and decision making, allowing for a comfortable win against Hereford Cathedral School 3-0. The following week King’s played Hereford 6th Form College in an exceedingly tight game. King’s were the better team but were unable to convert their chances. Playing into the opposition’s hands throughout the game, King’s had one last opportunity in the closing minutes which they were able to convert and win the game 1-0. It was particularly good to see so many siblings playing together in this game with Ben and Jess W, the three Brealey brothers and Bea and Charlotte M all involved.

In the last game of the season, King’s faced the toughest opposition so far in King Edward VI Five Ways School, who fielded a team comprised mostly of boys. After conceding a goal in the first 30 seconds, the rest of the game was hotly contested, with both teams producing some excellent hockey.

The team have had great success this season and have really enjoyed playing together.

It has been fantastic to see the display of enthusiasm from everyone involved, and the desire of the pupils to want to learn and participate in Hockey.

The season will commence again after Christmas so it will be great to see we hope even more people getting involved, and to see the development of the Mixed Hockey at King’s Worcester.
