King’s Success at Bath International Schools’ MUN Conference
The King’s Worcester Model United Nations (MUN) teams returned to Kingswood School in Bath for the 32nd Bath International Schools’ Model United Nations Conference.
Thirteen students from Upper Remove through to Upper Sixth worked hard in their committees over the two-day event, tackling some very serious global concerns.
The pupils debated a wide range of issues at the event, from women’s rights to sanctions on Israel.
Upper Sixth student, George C spoke as Ambassador for China in the General Assembly, while Upper Remove pupil, Sophie R spoke against Ethiopia’s clause as a delegate from Eritrea.
Sophie had to take a Point of Information from the delegate for Australia, Samantha C. Liam R, representing China, raised a Point of Information in the discussion of a clause submitted by Israel in the emergency scenario at the General Assembly.
It was a fabulous weekend of debating, and a great experience for all the pupils involved, especially those taking part in their first MUN Conferences.
Lower Sixth student, Toby R was commended for his contributions in the Environment Committee, which was particularly impressive given that this was his first-ever MUN conference. Further congratulations go to MUN Veteran, George C for winning Best Delegate in Security Council, and to Liam R, James C and Riya M for their Highly Commended achievements in the Political and SciTech Committees. George, Liam and Riya teamed up in the Chinese Delegation, where they were also awarded Highly Commended overall.
Upper Sixth student, George C said, “During the conference, we learnt about and debated a wide range of interesting and challenging topics, from the development of AI to the situation in Myanmar. As always, BISMUN was a really exciting opportunity for all of us involved.”
Congratulations to all our pupils who represented King’s Worcester at the International School’s Model United Nations Conference.
Model United Nations (MUN) is a pupil-led simulation of the real United Nations. It gives young debaters an opportunity to engage with the key international issues of the day. Pupils at King’s meet once a week to discuss and provide solutions to a breadth of topics facing the world today.
The annual Bath International Schools’ Model United Nations Conference provides a real-world MUN conference experience for pupils. It is an excellent way for them to challenge themselves, as often they will be debating on positions that are different from their personal opinion. This process allows delegates to get a deep and multifaceted understanding of global affairs – as they learn about each country’s position, interests and foreign policy. Pupils work to represent a country, and must solve topical problems with other delegates.
The Bath International Schools’ Model United Nations Conference, is one of the most prestigious, demanding, exciting, and valuable extra-curricular activities. It offers the opportunity for young leaders to build upon their current skillset and learn new invaluable skills such as communication, cooperation, negotiation, diplomacy, policy and resolution writing, and interpersonal skills.
