Mr Charles Attends Bishop’s Installation Ceremony
Head of Foundation, Mr Charles, was thrilled to attend a special service at Worcester Cathedral on Saturday to welcome the new Bishop of Worcester, Rt Rev Hugh Nelson.
Mr Charles was joined by the Choristers from King’s along with many other local schools and organisations from Worcester and beyond. Prayers were led by the Archdeacons of Worcester and Dudley, along with representatives from the diocese’s international partners in Peru, Morogoro in Tanzania, and the Evangelische Kirche Mitteldeutschland in Germany.
The Choristers were delighted to join with members of the Cathedral Youth Choir, and with visiting singers and instrumentalists from around the diocese, to sing at the service. While it required some hard work to get the music for this service ready only two weeks into the new term, it was a joy to be part of such a happy occasion, and through their wonderful singing the Choristers were excellent ambassadors for both the Cathedral Choir and for King’s.
Bishop Hugh was formally installed in his ‘seat’ in the Cathedral by the Dean of Worcester. He previously served as Bishop of St Germans in the Diocese of Truro and as Acting Bishop of Truro from September 2023 until May 2025.
Refounded by Henry VIII in 1541, King’s Worcester has long enjoyed a close relationship with Worcester Cathedral, with the historic building playing a significant part of day-to-day life for the pupils at all three schools in the Foundation.
In a recent interview, Mr Charles commented: “Being part of a cathedral community is an amazing experience for people who work here and who are pupils here. We are daily reminded just by looking out of the windows here that we are part of something that is much bigger than ourselves and I think that’s a really key and important life lesson.”
