New CCF Recruits Get to Grips with Fieldcraft
This year’s new recruits to the CCF, together with their Sixth Form NCOs, spent the weekend at the Old School Campsite in Shropshire on their Recruits Field Training Exercise, learning how to keep themselves comfortable in field conditions. The experienced Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth cadets taught the Lower Remove recruits how to camouflage and conceal themselves, erect improvised shelters and look after their equipment, use basic navigation techniques, cook their rations, and move tactically at night without the use of torchlight.
The unusually warm weather helped to keep morale high, and all the recruits performed very well, not only as individuals but also as their sections, the training teams that they are in for the term.
The recruits are now looking forward to a few more weeks of training back at school, before being awarded their berets at the end of the term. They will then move on to their chosen section, either Army or RAF, to continue building their knowledge and skills.
