Exceptional Rowing Skills on Show in Shrewsbury

Over 70 King’s rowers competed in 50 crews at the annual Shrewsbury Regatta last weekend, all demonstrating their enormous talent and several ultimately taking home medals.

It was the first chance for most of our Lower Removes to experience the excitement of side-by-side racing at a regatta. They rose to the occasion, with many close races in front of the large crowds lining the banks and in glorious summer conditions, thoroughly enjoying the experience.

The older, more experienced rowers also raced well throughout the morning and afternoon divisions, with many crews reaching finals. Jack D took the title in the J18 Single Scull with a commanding performance over his rival in both rounds.

Luke M and Charlie M-W both progressed to the final in the J17 Band A Single Scull to set up an all- King’s final. Ultimately Luke won the battle.

This left Bentley L to attempt a clean sweep of the senior boys sculling events for King’s. He progressed to the final after two rounds, having to re-row one race after being stopped just short of the finish, due to another competitor capsizing in the previous race. The final was tight in the first part of the race, but as he rounded the bend he asserted his authority and cruised to victory.

It was a fantastic day at Shrewsbury, with King’s rowers once again showcasing their outstanding skill on the water.
