Success for King’s Student in Arkwright Engineering Scholarship

The latest Arkwright Engineering Scholars have recently been announced and King’s have met with success once again!

Supported by the talents and expertise of the Design and Technology Department, another student has been awarded an Arkwright Scholarship; this year James C (L6, Cr) has secured this prestigious engineering and educational accolade.

The Arkwright Engineering Scholarship is the most esteemed one of its type in the UK, designed to inspire students to pursue their dreams and change the world as a future leader in engineering. The scholarships are awarded to hard-working 16-year-old pupils through a rigorous selection process, supporting them thereafter through their A-levels. The Arkwright Engineering Scholarship is a programme run by the national STEM education charity, The Smallpeice Trust, which has been providing scholarships for pupils since 1991.

James expressed his delight at the award, “I am very pleased with achieving an Arkwright Scholarship. I hope that it will be able to give me very valuable experience in engineering. I have also been able to use it buy myself a 3D printer and am really enjoying using that to solve problems and build projects.”

James joins an illustrious group of successful engineers from the School; since King’s started putting pupils forward for the scholarships in 2009, 30 have received the award.

Every Scholarship is sponsored by a commercial company, trade association, university, professional institution, armed service, government organisation, worshipful company, charitable trust, or personal donor. This means that support is offered in various ways; for example, it might be valuable hands-on work experience, assistance with a curriculum project or the guidance of a personal mentor, who can help with aspects of the student’s studies and career planning.

The scholarships include financial help, mentoring and exclusive events. Scholars have access to a wide variety of exclusive events run by partner companies, universities, and trade associations, including Connect Days and Summer Schools. These events give Scholars a real insight into different sectors of industry and academia.

We offer our warmest congratulations to James!
