Thrilling Cricket Matches Mark Second Half of the Season

Last Saturday marked the start of the second half of our cricket season with the highly anticipated annual block against local rivals RGS. This fixture always promises excitement, and this year was no exception, featuring spectacular individual and team performances.

The 2nd XI continued their impressive form, delivering their performance of the season so far. They successfully chased down RGS’s total of 165 with eight wickets remaining and 13 overs to spare, thanks to a stellar 111 not out from Sufiyaan R. His innings showcased his skill and determination, setting a high standard for the team.

Not to be outdone, Billy T from the U13A team delivered an outstanding performance, scoring a magnificent 140 not out. His remarkable innings helped the team post a formidable total of 280 from 30 overs, with solid support from Ned T, who contributed a well-made 70. The U13A’s bowling and fielding efforts were equally impressive, completing a well-rounded performance that dominated the day.

The 1st XI had an intense game at home, narrowly missing out on victory. The match went down to the wire, with the visitors edging over the line nine wickets down and with one over to spare. Henry H continued his excellent season, taking 4-25 and adding 30 runs with the bat, underlining his all-round capabilities.

The U15B team also secured a fine win at home, showcasing a great all-round team effort. Every player contributed with either bat or ball, but Rupert J stood out with a composed 47, while Ethan T impressed with his bowling, taking 3-30.

Elsewhere, the U14s and U12s faced tougher challenges. The U14A team displayed great resilience, defending a below-par score with energy and enthusiasm, making RGS work hard to chase down the total with only a few overs to spare. The U14B had a low-scoring, tightly contested match that could have gone either way, with some wayward bowling in the middle overs proving costly.

In the U12 category, RGS posted a formidable 231. Despite this, our batsmen put up a valiant fight, with Ollie B scoring 49 and Barnaby J adding 31, falling just short of the target. The U12B team experienced a similar fate, narrowly missing out in a close chase.

Overall, the matches were played in great spirit and competitiveness, and it was wonderful to see so many pupils participating and enjoying the game.

We conclude the block this week with the U15A in action at home on Thursday and the 1st XI Girls making history on Friday evening in their first 100-ball fixture. The excitement and anticipation continue to build as we look forward to more thrilling cricket action.
