U13 Hockey Defeat Local Rivals to Clinch County Championship Title
Our U13 hockey team played in the County Championships this week, with matches against Bromsgrove and RGS.
The girls started a little slowly in the first game, conceding an early goal, but they battled hard and grew as the contest went on, starting to move the ball on more quickly and creating some good goal scoring opportunities. The Bromsgrove Goalkeeper made some great saves to keep out our short-corner attacks, and we saw one shot rebound off the post. With five minutes to go, Lily B went on a strong run from defence and her shot crept in at the near post. The game finished 1-1
After Bromsgrove and RGS drew, the girls knew that a victory would see them crowned as County Champions. This motivated them and they started exceptionally strongly, with Amelia M scoring after great pressure from Lara J to bring a turnover high up the pitch. Mea scored shortly afterwards, with a powerful run and strike in the corner. RGS got one back just before the half-time whistle, but the girls remained confident and continued to play positively, leading to Liv K scoring a well-placed goal past the Goalkeeper. RGS had a series of short-corners as the game ended, but our defence held strong, meaning the girls came away with a 3-1 victory and were crowned County Champions. We wish them the best of luck as they progress to Regional Finals in March.
Director of Sport Mrs Miller-Symonds reflected on an exciting week on the Astro: “‘It has been a fantastic week for hockey at King’s: following on from the First Team’s Bronze Medal in the ISHC Plate finals, the U13s played some wonderful Hockey on the way to becoming County Champions. They are a very strong team who work hard in training and have made so much progress throughout the season. It is exciting to see the talent on show across the age groups!”
