Upper Remove Pupils take part in a Spanish Exchange
Twenty-Five pupils from Upper Remove travelled to Algeciras in the south of Spain from Saturday 17th Feb to Friday 24th Feb for a homestay exchange with students from the equivalent year group of IES Isla Verde.
We had a busy few days with a fantastic welcome on the Saturday, a typical merienda (tea), and ice-breaking games before the students went home with their hosts. There was a day enjoyed with the host families on Sunday and students enjoyed many different activities and visits.
On Monday we were welcomed with a formal presentation in the school Assembly Hall, a visit to the Town Hall where the Mayor welcomed us to the city and we learnt about the Algeciras Conference of 1906 (which was held in the room where we met the Mayor). Then we did a town trail to discover various corners of the city.
On Tuesday we went with our exchange partners to Gibraltar where we had a guided tour of the various sights, including the apes. On Wednesday we had a further day of school activities, including bilingual lessons and a typical Andalucian breakfast (slice of bread with olive oil and tomato) for the Day of Andalucía.
On Thursday we travelled to Jerez de la Frontera where we visited the Carriage Museum, and saw a show of the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art, with their famous dancing horses, and we also enjoyed a guided tour around this very beautiful city.
On Friday we visited the Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia, near Bolonia, and the town of Tarifa, and flew home.
