King’s Worcester 1st Hockey Team: Unbeaten Start and Strong Cup Progress

The King’s Worcester 1st Hockey team is enjoying a remarkable season, with their focus firmly on progressing in two major national cup competitions. With seven games under their belt, the team remains undefeated, winning six matches and drawing one.

Their performances have been characterised by fluid, attacking hockey and a well-organised defence, making them a pleasure to watch.

This season’s success is particularly impressive, as it highlights the strength of a young squad that includes two Year 10 and two Year 11 pupils. These younger players have quickly integrated into the team, supported by the leadership of three Upper Sixth members. Together, they’ve formed a cohesive unit that has seen them excel in both the England Hockey Cup and the Independent Schools Hockey Cup (ISHC).

In cup competition, the team has advanced to the third round in both tournaments, scoring 18 goals while conceding just three. This excellent form reflects the balance between their attacking creativity and solid defence.

One of their standout results came in the England Hockey Cup, where they achieved a 10-0 win against King’s High Warwick. The match provided a fantastic opportunity for the team’s younger players to gain valuable experience, contributing to a confident team performance that showcased their skills and teamwork.

Their ISHC journey has also been one to watch. The 1st XI secured a hard-fought 2-0 win over Repton in the second round, demonstrating their ability to rise to the occasion in tight, competitive fixtures. This victory was a reflection of the team’s growing confidence and their ability to perform under pressure against strong opposition.

In addition to their cup progress, the team has been consistent in their regular fixtures. A notable 2-0 win over Repton at the start of the season was a sign of things to come, with well-crafted goals and solid defensive play. This was followed by another 2-0 win against Monmouth, where the team’s depth and resilience were on display in a closely contested match.

As the season moves forward, the team remains focused on their cup runs, eager to continue their progress and maintain their strong form. With a blend of experienced leadership and talented young players, the team has developed a well-rounded style of play that has served them well so far.

Their undefeated start provides a solid foundation, and the school community is looking forward to supporting this team at Severn Shield, the much-anticipated local derby against RGS Worcester next week. Tickets and parking passes may be requested via this Link.  There is no charge but a charity collection for ‘Young Minds’ will take place at the point of entry.
