King's Worcester

20 March

Distinguished Composer, Sir John Rutter, Welcomed to King’s

On 15th March we were delighted to welcome distinguished composer, Sir John Rutter, to King’s as part of the Worcester Competitive Arts Festival.

Sir John led a choral workshop in College Hall with 350 singers from the local community.

During the day he also met with our Cathedral Choristers, who had the exciting opportunity to ask questions about his favourite composers and his life as a composer.

He also took time to sign their programme for a concert that took place later that evening in the Cathedral, featuring one of his large-scale works, Psalmfest.

Before the concert he gave a talk in College Hall about his life as a composer and his friendships with several Old Vigornians, including

Stephen and Nicholas Cleobury, as well as former King’s Director of Music from the 1960s, Harry Bramma.

Harry, now in his 90s, is currently writing his memoirs and Sir John gave the audience a sneak preview of some of Harry’s anecdotes from his long and distinguished career as a teacher and organist.

Many thanks to Sir John Rutter for taking the time to share his exceptional knowledge and insights.
