Outstanding Rugby on Show at King’s Sevens Tournament
The King’s U18s Sevens Tournament proved to be a tremendous success, hosted at Worcester Rugby Club in conditions perfectly suited to fast, running rugby.
A strong field of teams ensured a highly competitive day, with plenty of outstanding play on display throughout.
The King’s squad arrived on the back of some encouraging performances at Brecon the previous weekend and were eager to make full use of the favourable conditions. They delivered an excellent group-stage campaign, playing with real accuracy, pace, and ambition. Four wins from four – against St Peter’s Gloucester, Solihull, Bro Edern, and Alcester GS – were backed up by an impressive tally of 26 tries, underlining the team’s intent and attacking quality.
Progressing as group winners, King’s faced a powerful Sir Thomas Rich’s side in the knockout stage. It proved to be a true test of character, with the team forced to come from behind twice before sealing a hard‑fought 26–19 victory.
The final, against St Benedict’s Ealing, was a physical, tightly contested encounter from start to finish. King’s held a 24–17 lead with just a minute remaining, but a last‑play individual break brought St Benedict’s level, sending the match into golden‑try extra time. Despite some outstanding defensive work, King’s were eventually undone as St Benedict’s crossed for the winning score.
The King’s players should be incredibly proud of their performances, resilience and the high standard of rugby they produced throughout the tournament.
A special thank you goes to Worcester Rugby Club for hosting the King’s Sevens Tournament and an excellent day of rugby.
