Cadets Gain Exciting Insights on Action-Packed Field Day

Fourteen Cadets from across the year groups took part in a field day at RAF Cosford, combining aircraft engineering insight with practical leadership challenges.

Cadets travelled to Shropshire for a full-day visit designed to broaden their understanding of RAF careers and strengthen teamwork and leadership skills. The group was accompanied by Flying Officer Knights and Acting Pilot Officer Booth.

The morning was spent at the Maintenance Training School, where cadets learned about the role and day-to-day operation of the school, as well as the internal workings of jet aircraft systems, including engines and avionics. Cadets were also given a rare opportunity to sit inside the cockpits of a Hawk, Jaguar and Tornado, giving them a very close-up view of how these aircraft are configured.

At lunchtime, the group experienced life on station by eating in the Mess, before heading out for an afternoon of low-ropes challenges. Working in teams, the Cadets tackled a range of exercises – some of the most demanding on the course – requiring clear communication, resilience and problem-solving under pressure.

Cosford staff commented on the Cadets’ enthusiasm and the standard of teamwork on display, noting the ability and leadership shown across the group as they completed each task. The day provided an engaging mix of technical learning and practical challenge, and offered Cadets a memorable insight into RAF training and station life.
