King’s Worcester Celebrates National Award for Senior Production of Chicago

King’s Worcester is celebrating after its senior production of Chicago was named Best Musical at the National School Theatre Awards in London.

The prestigious awards, affectionately known by pupils as “the Oscars for schools”, recognise the exceptional talent, commitment and creativity that go into school productions across the country. King’s Worcester’s production of Chicago, staged in December, was selected from a highly competitive field of 86 schools from across the UK.

Pupils and staff travelled to London for the Gala Awards Show on Monday, where they enjoyed official red-carpet photographs before spending the glittering evening celebrating outstanding school theatre. The Senior Production of Chicago had been nominated for Best Musical, alongside four individual award nominations for Bella C, Flo S, Henry F and Amelia W.

When King’s Worcester was announced as the winner of Best Musical, the production was described as “a polished, energetic and highly engaging performance that demonstrated exceptional talent, creativity and teamwork.”

Before departing for London, the Chicago cast were given a fitting send-off by pupils from the Lower Years, currently rehearsing their upcoming production of 42nd Street, who gathered to clap and cheer them on as they left for the ceremony. It was a special moment of celebration and inspiration, offering younger performers a glimpse of what can be achieved.

Head of Foundation, Ben Charles, said: “We are incredibly proud of every pupil and member of staff involved in Chicago. To win Best Musical at the National School Theatre Awards is a remarkable achievement and a richly deserved recognition of the talent, energy and dedication that made the production so special. It was an unforgettable performance and a fantastic celebration of the strength of the performing arts at King’s.”

King’s Worcester extends its congratulations to everyone involved in the production and to all those whose creativity, commitment and support helped bring Chicago so spectacularly to life.
