Open Mic Night Brings Music to the School Gardens
There was music, sunshine and a wonderful sense of community in the air as pupils, staff and families gathered in the school gardens for Open Mic Night last Friday evening.
Now in its third consecutive year as a summer term outdoor event, Open Mic Night has become a much-loved fixture in the school calendar. This year’s event once again made the most of the beautiful garden setting, with a large audience enjoying picnics and singing along during the evening of live music.
The programme featured an impressive 20 acts, ranging from solo performances to full bands, with pupils showcasing a fantastic variety of musical styles. The audience was treated to an eclectic mix of songs, including music by Adele, The Beatles, The Cranberries, Michael Jackson, Chuck Berry, the Spice Girls and many more.
Many of the acts had been prepared by the pupils themselves, highlighting not only their musical talent but also their creativity, confidence and independence. From carefully arranged accompaniments to energetic group numbers, the evening offered something for everyone.
One of the highlights of the evening was a cameo appearance from Head of Foundation, Mr Charles, who performed Billy Joel’s Piano Man, accompanied by four pupils and Mr
Taranczuk. The surprise performance proved a very memorable moment!
The evening was also particularly special for several Upper Sixth pupils, many of whom have performed at Open Mic Night over the past five years. Their farewell performances provided a fitting finale to their time at King’s in a night full of music and celebration.
Congratulations to everyone who took part and to all those who helped make the event such a success. Open Mic Night was once again a brilliant showcase of talent, teamwork and the joy of live performance.
