Badminton Team Crowned Worcester County Champions
The King’s U14 girls’ team has been crowned Worcester County Badminton Champions in this year’s National School Badminton Championships, having already been named District Champions earlier in the season.
For some of our players, this marks their second consecutive title, following our debut entry into the competition last year.
The team represented King’s, and our district, with outstanding determination and spirit. The squad comprised Katie C, Lucy M, Evie N, and Alexandra W, who trained together during club time last term, forming a well balanced and cohesive group. Each player brought her own strengths, contributing to a superb team dynamic. Throughout the tournament, they demonstrated teamwork, resilience, and composure, performing with maturity beyond their years.
Katie won all her singles matches convincingly, dominating play with her powerful attacking smashes. Lucy controlled rallies superbly, moving her opponents around the court and finding space with well-placed shots. Evie covered the court with impressive athleticism, and her consistent serving proved crucial in clinching narrow wins in her doubles games. Alex overcame early nerves and contributed sharp, decisive net play, securing the final deciding game that sealed the overall match victory.
The girls had already secured the district championship, having won all their matches earlier in the season. At county level, they faced strong opposition and had to maintain focus through long, competitive games, taking each point steadily to secure their victories. They constantly supported one another, discussing strategies between matches and showing excellent sportsmanship, independence, and tactical awareness.
The team will now go on to represent Worcestershire in the Regional Finals. We are immensely proud of their achievements and wish them every success in the next round!
