Outstanding Performances from Boys 1st XI Against Gentlemen of Worcestershire

The boys 1st XI annual game against the Gentlemen of Worcestershire on Wednesday proved to be a fantastic event in which we saw some outstanding performances.

It was also great to be able to welcome back five OVs to Slingpool Walk.

Captain Ollie Y lost the toss and the Gents elected to bat first. The boys manged to create some early pressure and Ben E was rewarded with two wickets after a fine opening spell. Scoring looked to be difficult, but a fine knock of 71* from OV Charlie Norton allowed the Gents to get to a more than defendable 190 from their 35 overs.

The 1st XI quickly found themselves on the backfoot in their batting innings, as Suf R, Seth E and Sam B all went fairly early on and looked to be really struggling at 51-3 after 16 overs. Needing nearly 8 runs per over at the halfway point, a win looked unlikely, but with-in form batsmen, Will T, still at the crease, anything was possible. He was joined by Henry H and the pair went about rebuilding the innings.

A truly remarkable partnership then ensued with both players putting the bowlers and fielders under pressure at all times. At no point did either batsmen looked phased or under pressure by the mammoth task they faced, and both batted superbly in tough conditions. They put on a staggering (and unbeaten) partnership of 143 off just 109 balls, with Will T (109*) adding another century to the tally this season and Henry H finishing on a well deserved 68*, with what has to be some of the best batting ever seen on the 1st XI pitch.

This staggering feat saw the boys 1st XI home by 7 wickets with 9 balls to spare, and meant an unlikely victory had been achieved.

The 1st XI travel to Solihull this Saturday and welcome The MCC next Wednesday.
