Careers Host Insight into Architecture Evening

We were delighted to welcome our UR – U6 students to our third Insight Careers evening which was held this week virtually via Zoom. This time we focussed on the creative opportunities within the architectural design sector. Students heard from our panel of five impressive speakers, each of whom brought a different perspective on Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Interior Design.

Josh Wickens (OV’11) shared his recent experiences of studying and working in a large integrated architecture, design and planning firm whilst Lydia Robinson (OV’98) spoke of both working in Canada and subsequently setting up her own practice. Our third representative from the sector, Kwesi Marles illuminated the wide variety of roles an architectural training could lead on to.

Lizzie Baxter (OV’10) brought the perspective of the Interior Design industry, and Mark Martin, Director of Worcester based One Creative Environments Ltd, spoke of Landscape Architecture. As ever, we are very grateful for the support from our OVs and Speakers and were pleased to see that the students had plenty of questions after the presentations.

Head of Careers, Helen Airdrie said, “It was inspiring to share the creative passion from each of the panel, and it was extremely beneficial for our King’s students to gain awareness of the wide range of different roles and opportunities that exist within the architectural design sector and how their Art or Design & technology studies here at King’s can be a great foundation towards a degree and a successful career within the architectural design sector.”

In recent years, a number of King’s students have gained entry to study architecture and design-based degrees at some of the most prestigious universities in the country.  During their time at King’s students studying Art and DT will not only develop their creative thinking, independence and ambition, but they will also learn practical processes and disciplines such as observational drawing three-dimensional design that will be fundamental to their university studies. The Art and DT departments also work closely with pupils during the application process and help them to collate exciting portfolios and conduct practice interviews to ensure they are fully prepared.  Hear more about our fantastic Art and DT departments here at King’s in our departmental videos.
