Chicago Production a Showstopper from Start to Finish
This year’s senior production of Chicago was nothing short of spectacular – a dazzling display of talent, professionalism, and sheer theatrical energy.
From the opening number to the final bow, the performance moved seamlessly from song to scene, each moment infused with exceptional choreography and slickness.
Directed and choreographed by Lauren Slater-Klein, with additional choreography by Kym Lane and music from Simon Taranczuk, the show radiated confidence and flair.
The casting was superb, showcasing the calibre of our pupils in every role. Leading ladies Bella C as Velma Kelly and Flo S as Roxie Hart delivered jaw-dropping performances throughout, commanding the stage with charisma and strength. Their duet, My Own Best Friend, closed Act One with such power and presence that it left the audience in awe.
Among the many highlights were unforgettable numbers such as Cell Block Tango, Both Reached for the Gun, Me and My Baby, Roxie and All That Jazz.
The supporting cast shone brightly too. Sam P gave a delightful portrayal of the overlooked Amos, winning hearts and earning cheers with his sincerity, while Henry F brought charm and showmanship to Billy Flynn, complete with smooth talking and fancy footwork. Amelia W as Mama Morton kept everyone in line with commanding authority and wit, while the entire ensemble delivered high-energy performances that brought the world of Chicago vividly to life.
One of the most striking moments was the haunting hanging scene, performed as an aerial dance by Persephone M, a daring and visually stunning addition that had the audience captivated.
Behind the scenes, the magic continued, with the backstage crew and musicians rising to the occasion. The live band provided an outstanding musical backdrop; Paul Haynes and his technical support team wowed with an ingenious set and stunning lighting design; and Caitlin Smith’s sensational costumes gave every character authenticity and flair.
Audience feedback spoke volumes, with one audience member commenting: “I loved Chicago last night – please pass on my congratulations to everyone involved for a super production. Acting, singing, music, costumes, staging – all brilliant.”
Another added, “An audience who truly fed off the energy exuding from that stage! Absolutely fabulous.”
This production was a triumph of collaboration, creativity, and commitment – a testament to the incredible talent within our school.
Bravo to all involved!
