Concert Season at King’s
Last Wednesday’s Young Performers’ Concert was a wonderful opportunity to witness the musical talent of many of our younger pupils. The Intermediate Flute Group set the tone with a lively rendition of I’d Do Anything, from Oliver.
The Lower Fourths (Year 7) are now thoroughly settled in, and really beginning to make the most of opportunities like this. Show songs and pop songs were interspersed with clarinet, violin and trumpet solos amongst others, all well prepared and sounding great. The Upper Fourths (Year 8) are used to these concerts by now, and contributed excellently, whilst amongst the Lower Removes (Year 9) it is becoming clear to see who is heading towards Open Mic Nights and who will end up in our Cleobury Concerts (or indeed, in some cases, both).
The dust had barely settled on Wednesday’s performance when, on Thursday evening, we launched forth into this term’s Informal Concert. This is the slightly older sibling of the Young Performers’ Concerts, catering for Middle Years and Sixth Form pupils.
The soloists’ nerves were settled by a controlled and impressive performance of Hold Back the River by Guitar Group at the start of the concert, and we were then treated to a broad range of music, largely solos, from across the ages and the range of instruments. The happy chatter of audience and performers after the concert perfectly expressed the success and the joy of the occasion.
