Cricket Star Phoebe B Shines in the Women’s U19 T20 World Cup

Lower Sixth student, Phoebe B, has been making her mark in cricket’s Women’s U19 T20 World Cup, stunning the crowd with a spectacular diving catch to take the team the World Cup semi-final against India on Friday morning.

Her tournament began with two warm-up matches, where she played a key role. Against Samoa, she bowled three overs, taking 1-6, followed by an impressive 3-32 in four overs in a tied game against Bangladesh. The group stage was a mix of success and frustration, with the opening match against Ireland abandoned due to rain. She went on to bowl impressively in victories over Pakistan (0-13 in three overs) and the USA (0-22 in four overs).

Progressing to the Super Six, rain again disrupted proceedings against Nigeria. However, Brett shone in the crucial win over New Zealand, taking 1-16 in four overs.

Phoebe said: “This experience has been amazing. It is such a privilege to have the opportunity to represent my country in cricket and get through into the semi-final stage of a world cup, with the hope to go the whole way.”

The youngest player in the squad, Brett has already gained valuable experience, having trained at Loughborough every weekend for eight weeks leading up to the tournament. Representing Warwickshire Bears Academy, she has demonstrated composure beyond her years on the world stage.

Phoebe now plays in the team’s semi-final on Friday morning, where she will be aiming to help her team reach the U19 T20 World Cup final on 2nd February.
