Cricket Teams Make Impressive Start to Cup Campaigns
With the cricket season in full swing, the boys and girls teams at King’s have made an outstanding start to their cup campaigns with both 1st XI teams claiming impressive victories in the fist stages of the National Schools Cup.
Boys 1st XI
The Boys 1st XI began their National Cup campaign in record breaking fashion.
Round 1 v Wycliffe College
In Round 1, they faced Wycliffe College in superb conditions at the Cinderella Ground. After losing an early wicket, what followed over the next 20 overs was nothing short of exceptional.
The side posted an imposing total of 250 for 5, the highest score ever recorded by the school in the National T20 Cup. Captain Will T led from the front with a remarkable 179 not out from just 69 balls, the highest individual score by a King’s pupil. This proved far beyond the visitors, with King’s securing a comfortable victory.
Round 2 v RGS Worcester
Round 2 saw the team take on local rivals RGS at Flagge Meadow. On this occasion, it was the bowlers who set the tone, restricting the hosts to 140 for 4.
Fletcher K and Piers J were particularly effective with the new ball, and Suf R bowled tightly in the middle overs, putting the team firmly in control. In reply, Sam B led the batting with a well-constructed 62 from 34 deliveries, while Seth provided excellent support with a rapid 36 from 18 balls. King’s chased down the target convincingly, winning by eight wickets with 5.4 overs remaining.
The team now look ahead to hosting Dean Close in Round 3.
Girls 1st XI
Round 1 v RGS Worcester
King’s Girls’ 1st XI produced a dominant all-round cricket performance to secure victory over RGS Worcester in the National Schools Cup U18 100-ball fixture.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, King’s posted an impressive 163–5 from their 100 balls. The innings was anchored by a great 81 from Bryony G, who struck 11 fours and 2 sixes in a 46-ball display. She was well supported by Grace JVV (33 off 25) as the pair helped build a strong platform. Late contributions from Eva T (13*) ensured the innings finished with momentum.
In response, RGS Worcester were restricted to 113–7, falling 50 runs short. Regular wickets halted any sustained chase. King’s bowlers shared the success, with Bryony G (2–15) and Charlotte B (2–23) leading the attack, while Florence B struck early to set the tone.
A good bowling performance combined with sharp fielding ensured King’s maintained control throughout, capping off a convincing and well-earned victory.
