Eco Committee Joins Local Partners to Mark Go Green Week

Members of King’s Eco Committee took part in a week of inspiring activities as part of the University of Worcester’s Go Green Week, an annual celebration of sustainability and wellbeing. Pupils engaged with the University, along with local politicians and businesses, to share ideas and explore solutions to key sustainability issues.

On Tuesday, pupils visited the University’s Sustainability Fayre, where they explored a wide range of ideas and advice on sustainable living. The event, organised by students, showcased fun and engaging activities designed to raise awareness of how everyday choices can help protect the environment. Pupils also learnt about future opportunities in the growing sustainability sector and the many pathways into green careers.

The week continued on Thursday with a “Sustainability in Future Careers” workshop, led by Change Agents UK. During the session, pupils heard first-hand experiences and insights from professionals working in sustainability. They discovered the wide variety of careers available in this field and learnt more about the skills and qualifications needed to succeed.

On Friday, committee members attended a conference focusing on climate change risks for Worcester. The event brought together local political leaders, senior figures from the University of Worcester and the Worcester Students’ Union, along with other experts, to discuss how climate change is already affecting local communities and what can be done in response.

The Eco-Committee plans to bring many of these ideas back into school over the coming months. At King’s, the committee plays a key role in planning and implementing eco initiatives, as well as helping knowledge to be shared with other pupils through assemblies and PSHE sessions.

The Committee includes pupils from across the age groups, working together to help make the school and wider community more sustainable.
