Future Economists Inspired at Warwick University Conference

Last Thursday, our Upper Sixth students attended an ‘Economics in Action’ lecture-style conference at Warwick University.

The event was specifically aimed at A level Economics students and provided some great opportunities to extend understanding beyond the A level specification. It presented a wonderful opportunity for students to relate the economic theories and models learnt in the classroom to economics in the real world.

Sessions included how well behaved are our decisions?, the rise of rentier power, the economics of money, and the economics of happiness. A useful ‘exam success’ session gave some excellent tips and strategies to our students ahead of their mock examinations and beyond.

A further session entitled ‘how to be a successful economist’ was hosted by Vicky Pryce, herself a successful economist as the Chief Economic Advisor at the Centre for Economics and Business Research. She detailed the importance of having broader and softer skills in this field, as well as the importance of being prepared to learn from others, even if you don’t agree with them.

The day was thoroughly insightful and enjoyed by all.
